Iberian peninsula
Andorra, 99km
What Andorra lacks in size, it makes up for in sheer charm and fascinating places to see and experience. This route carries you all the way around the heart of the tiny country and a little further afield too, taking in the Mirador Roc del Quer viewpoint with its stunning panoramas of the Pyrenees, the beginner-friendly ski resort at Ordino Arcalís, the magnificent food at Hotel Xalet Bringué’s restaurant, and the beautiful village of Ransol. If you’ve done all the obvious places already, Andorra might just be the breath of fresh mountain air you’re looking for.
Modernity and tradition
Sant Joan de Caselles church dates back to between the 11th and 12th centuries, and the Sanctuary of Meritxell balances ancient tradition with peaceful modernity.
A slippery slope
If you’re new to skiing, Andorra’s an excellent place to start. The après ski scene is remarkably good, placing more emphasis on friendliness than wild excess.
