Cascais to Praia das Maçãs (N247)

Portugal, 32km

Portugal’s N247 road provides a wonderfully scenic mountain ride through Sintra-Cascais National Park. This route starts at Cascais and ends at the beautiful beach town of Praia das Maçãs, with a diversion en route to Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point of mainland Europe. A great road surface and constant sweeping corners through incredible scenery, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and thick forest on the other make for an exhilarating ride.

The road winds around the steep hills of the Sintra Mountains and provides many wonderful views of the western side of the Sintra National Park. This beautiful region has many attractions worth a detour, including the trendy surfing beach of Praia Grande, the pristine sands of Ursa Beach and the pretty village of Azenhas do Mar.

Take a peak
Make a short diversion to visit probably the best viewpoint in the region: the Sanctuary of Peninha, a chapel and abandoned villa that sits atop one of the regions highest peaks.

‘Apple Beach’
Praia de Maçãs is a charming and distinctly Portuguese town on the mouth of the Colares river, packed with cafes and restaurants and situated on one of the most beautiful beaches of the Sintra coastline.
