National Memorial Arch

King of Prussia, Pennsylvania | 110 miles

The National Memorial Arch in Valley Forge National Historical Park commemorates the arrival of General George Washington and the Continental Army into Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War. Dedicated in 1917, the 61-foot-tall granite arch was modeled after the classical Roman Arch of Titus in Rome, erected in the first century A.D. The original proposal called for two arches to serve as entrance gates on either end of the park, but the plans were later modified, and in 1910 Congress approved the construction of a single arch at a cost of $100,000.
