Meet the roadster-inspired Harley-Davidson “Street Cobra”
Exploring the craftsmanship and inspirations behind one truly unique custom Harley-Davidson® build

It looks like it was carved from speed itself: low-slung, brushed metal and unmistakably aggressive. This is the “Street Cobra”, a custom 2008 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® built by Verner Ortis of VM Cycles in Tolmezzo, Italy. Inspired by a similarly finished satin aluminum Shelby Cobra Series 1 car and shaped with the precision of a builder fluent in both form and function, the Street Cobra is a machine that turns heads before it even turns over.
The idea was sparked by a conversation between Verner and his friend Marco, owner of the Shelby Cobra. That car’s unmistakable silhouette and raw mechanical character became the blueprint for a motorcycle that would carry the same DNA. Over the course of a year, Verner translated that vision into metal, shaping every component by hand and pushing the boundaries of his own style in the process.


At its core, the Street Cobra is powered by a heavily reworked V-Twin engine. The original 96 cubic inch engine was bored out to 1800cc by Luca Pilosio of HP Garage, with ported heads and a switch from fuel injection to a 45mm Mikuni carburetor. An Altmann AMMP3 ECU manages ignition, giving the bike a sharp, analogue responsiveness that suits its aggressive geometry. It’s a set-up that favours feel over finesse; believe it or not, it’s a bike built to be ridden, not just admired.
The rear frame was modified to lower the bike’s stance, and lenticular wheels from a Fat Boy® were added to give it a planted, muscular look. The fairing, tank, fenders, exhaust, and handlebars were all fabricated by Verner himself, with each piece shaped with meticulous intent. The fairing, in particular, stands out: angular and aerodynamic, it gives the bike a forward-leaning posture that feels ready to launch.
One detail that is immediately evident is the name “Ken Miles” painted on the gas tank, a nod to the legendary driver who helped define the Shelby legacy. It’s not just a reference, it’s a declaration. The Street Cobra isn’t trying to mimic the past, it’s continuing a conversation started decades ago, just on fewer wheels. The finish is equally deliberate. Rather than opting for a traditional paint job, Verner worked with renowned Italian pinstripper Blaster to complement the brushed aluminum effect, using fine lines to accent the contours of the bodywork.



Verner’s background in large-scale metal installations is evident in the build’s structural clarity and mechanical focus. But the Street Cobra marks a shift. “Usually my specials are more minimal, sober, and essential,” he says. “With the Street Cobra, I stepped out of my comfort zone. It was a beautiful adventure that helped me grow professionally and stylistically.”
That growth is visible in every detail. From the reworked engine to the hand-built bodywork, this build is a study in intent. “Every bike I build has a part of me in it,” Verner says. “But this one pushed me further. It challenged me to think differently, to take risks. And I’m proud of where it ended up.”
The Street Cobra is more than a custom build – it’s a deliberate exercise in engineering and identity. Every line, every mechanical choice, every brushed surface speaks to a concept pursued to its limit. It’s a Harley-Davidson stripped of its touring expectations and rebuilt with the spirit of a racer, the precision of a fabricator, and the vision of a builder willing to challenge his own boundaries. For Verner, it’s not just a motorcycle, but a turning point. And for anyone lucky enough to see it in person, it’s proof that bold ideas, when executed with this level of attention to detail, can transcend categories and become something entirely their own.
