Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Keystone, South Dakota | 99 miles

Among the many iconic destinations in the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore is incomparable. Completed in 1941, the sculpture’s 60-foot-tall granite faces depict former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln; the chosen presidents represent the birth, growth, development, and preservation of America. The monument was designed by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and named the “Shrine of Democracy,” and now it attracts more than two million visitors annually.
