Hog Capital of the World
Kewanee, Illinois | 92 miles
You’d probably consider Milwaukee, WI – the home of Harley-Davidson – to be the “hog” capital of the world, but the folks of Kewanee, IL beg to differ. After all, the city was officially designated as the “Hog Capital of the World” by the Illinois state legislature in 1949, shortly after Kewanee was recognized as the nation’s leading hog producer by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Each year on Labor Day weekend, the city sponsors Kewanee Hog Days, a festival that celebrates the savory swine, where you can chow down at “the world’s largest outdoor pork barbecue.”
