{"id":2331,"date":"2024-11-14T09:20:26","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T08:20:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hog.thecreativeplot.com\/en-eu\/?p=1816"},"modified":"2024-12-19T12:54:56","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T11:54:56","slug":"evolution-of-an-icon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hog.thecreativeplot.com\/gb\/evolution-of-an-icon\/","title":{"rendered":"EVOLUTION OF AN ICON"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"intro wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s one of the most recognisable brand logos in the world, but very little is actually known about the origins of the Harley-Davidson<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Bar &amp; Shield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trademark application filed with the US Patent Office cites the logo as having been used since May 6, 1910, according to H-D<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Archives Manager Bill Jackson, but the identity of its creator remains a mystery. One possibility, according to Jackson, is that it was designed by a Chicago agency that created advertising and marketing materials for the Motor Company. Over the years, the Bar &amp; Shield has gone through numerous design iterations, with no formal guidelines in place for its colour, shape or usage during much of its early history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The unusual and highly stylised Bar &amp; Shield painted on the shipping crate in this circa-1912 photo featuring \u2018Genial\u2019 George Puls, one of the Motor Company\u2019s first travelling salesmen, shows just how much the design has evolved over its more than 100-year history.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hog.thecreativeplot.com\/en-eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Untitled-2-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1824\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The familiar version of the Bar &amp; Shield used today was designed in the early 1930s and then revived in 1976, when it was used in a series of patriotic-themed designs that adorned motorcycles and merchandise during the American Bicentennial.
