Thunersee and Brienzersee
Switzerland, 183km
Switzerland is full of glorious mountain scenery, and this mighty round trip is a real classic. Starting at Interlaken, you head northwest to Thun am Thunersee, northeast through the Schallenberg Pass and Marbach to Entlebuch, southeast to Sarnen am Sarnersee, and then southwest through the Brünigpass and Brienz am Brienzersee until you arrive back at Interlaken. The views are fantastic all year round, and there’s vigorous debate over which part of the ride is the most beautiful, but seeing the Alps in winter is one of those unforgettable life experiences.
The easy way up
Take a cable car to the Harder Kulm overlooking Interlaken and marvel at views of the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains.
Mix it up
A jetboat ride on Brienzersee in Interlaken will put the wind in your hair, while the panorama walking path, panorama bridge and planetarium in Sigriswil are more relaxing.
