Last Post Ride

Belgium, 146km

Belgium should be on the bucket list of any motorcyclist – it has stunning scenery, littered with ancient castles and buildings as well as haunting reminders of those lost in the two World Wars. This tour, starting to the east of Ghent and ending in Ypres, takes in many of the First World War battlefields and cemeteries from Passchendaele to Ypres itself, as well as the iconic Menin Gate Memorial, all providing poignant stops along the way.

If you time your ride properly you can end at the Menin Gate in Ypres for the Last Post, the daily remembrance of the fallen soldiers who gave their lives in the First World War, which takes place at 8pm every day. Please be respectful and maintain silence during this ceremony.

Tyne Cot
Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery and Memorial to the Missing is a famous burial ground for Commonwealth soldiers. It is the largest such cemetery anywhere in the world, located just outside Passchendaele.

Wildlife by the water
De Gavers is the largest nature and recreation area in West Flanders at 192 hectares. Look out for terns overhead and bitterns wading in the shallows, as well as a variety of ducks and warblers.
