Dans le premier \u00e9pisode de cette s\u00e9rie en deux parties, nous nous int\u00e9ressons aux succ\u00e8s cl\u00e9s par d\u00e9cennie<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les passionn\u00e9s courent sur des motos Harley-Davidson<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> depuis plus d\u2019un si\u00e8cle. Rien ne vaut la poursuite des frissons associ\u00e9s \u00e0 la vitesse, la man\u0153uvrabilit\u00e9 et le triomphe sur la piste de course. Il a ensuite rencontr\u00e9 un succ\u00e8s sans failles sur les \u00e9v\u00e9nements de distance, obtenant un score parfait de 1\u202f000\u202fpoints lors concours annuel d&#8217;endurance et de fiabilit\u00e9 de la Federation of American Motorcyclists en 1908 et a prouv\u00e9 la qualit\u00e9 de sa moto en battant le record d\u2019\u00e9conomie de carburant, enregistrant 188,234 miles par gallon (environ 80\u202fkm\/litre) seulement trois jours apr\u00e8s sa victoire sur longue distance. Par la suite, en 1913, le premier service courses a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 sous l\u2019\u0153il attentif de William S. Harley et la Motor Company a formellement fait son entr\u00e9e dans les courses de motos l\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante. L\u2019\u00e9quipe a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 faire des essais de temps \u00e0 Daytona Beach, battant des records officiels et non officiels. Le 16\u202ff\u00e9vrier 1920, Leslie \u201cRed\u201d Parkhurst a pulv\u00e9ris\u00e9 le record en parcourant un kilom\u00e8tre en 19,98\u202fsecondes et un mile en 32,45 secondes, atteignant une vitesse de 179\u202fkm\/h. Un an plus tard, le 22\u202ff\u00e9vrier, Otto Walker est devenu le premier pilote \u00e0 d\u00e9passer les 160\u202fkm\/h pendant une course de motos et le succ\u00e8s s\u2019est poursuivi tout au long de 1921, des pilotes Harley-Davidson remportant tous les championnats nationaux. En parall\u00e8le, Joe Petrali faisait sensation en devenant en 1932 le premier dans l\u2019histoire de la American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) \u00e0 d\u00e9crocher le titre de champion national \u00e0 la fois sur dirt track et sur c\u00f4te la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e. Un exploit qu\u2019il r\u00e9p\u00e9tera en 1933, 1935 et 1936. En 1935, Joe et the Peashooter ont remport\u00e9 13\u202fcourses de dirt track AMA, battant quatre records dans l\u2019entreprise. En 1946, Harley-Davidson a lanc\u00e9 l\u2019un de ses meilleurs mod\u00e8les de dirt track jamais produits\u202f: le flathead WR de 737\u202fcm<sup>3<\/sup>. La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, des pilotes H-D<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> ont remport\u00e9 18 des 24 championnats nationaux, battant au passage six records de course. Rien qu\u2019en 1960, les 14\u202fpremiers de la Daytona 200 \u00e9taient tous des pilotes Harley-Davidson sur des mod\u00e8les KR, Brad Andres d\u00e9crochant la premi\u00e8re place. Ralph White a \u00e9galement fini vainqueur du m\u00eame \u00e9v\u00e9nement en 1963 sur sa moto 750 KR. En 1964, Roger Reiman a remport\u00e9 le AMA Grand National Championship ainsi que la premi\u00e8re de ses deux victoires cons\u00e9cutives sur la Daytona 200. Bart Markel a men\u00e9 H-D \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re place du AMA GNC en 1965 et 1966, suivi par Mert Lawwill en 1969. Cal Rayborn a \u00e9galement commenc\u00e9 une s\u00e9rie de victoires cons\u00e9cutives sur la Daytona 200 en 1968, visant \u00e0 aller encore plus vite sur les Bonneville Salt Flats.
