Tasmania rarely disappoints the motorcycle tourist and the Tasman Highway from Launceston to Wineglass Bay is up there with the best on the island. Head northeast out of \u2018Lonnie\u2019 and wind your way through the hills taking in Scottsdale and the chocolate box village of Derby en route to St Helens \u2013 the game-fishing capital of Tassie that is renowned for its oysters. The coastal views are stunning as you continue down to Bicheno but aren\u2019t a patch on those that await you at Coles Bay and Wineglass Bay beyond. An overnight stop here would be sublime and allow you to enjoy a relaxed return via Cranbrook, Lake Leake, and Campbell Town, with a short detour via Longford \u2013 the local pub here is steeped in motorsport history and well worth the visit and perhaps even a cheeky schooner!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Motorsport heritage Peeking at penguins
<\/strong>During the 1950s and \u201960s, the Longford street circuit played host to some of the world\u2019s finest drivers \u2013 Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Jack Brabham and Jim Clark to name but a few. Cars and bikes would regularly race and both the 1959 and 1965 Australian Grand Prix were held here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>The Apple Isle claims to have one of the largest Little Penguin populations in Australia and New Zealand. Also known as Fairy Penguins, you can join nightly tours in Bicheno to check them out in their natural environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
