Head south out of Canberra, turn right at Cooma and you\u2019ll be cruising the Snowy Mountains in no time. Take the incredibly picturesque Dalgety Road from Berridale to appreciate the great touring road back to Jindabyne and its beautiful man-made lake. Weather in the Snowies is unpredictable at best and roads can get iced-up or closed in winter so worth calling Live Traffic NSW before you set off \u2013 the road from here is definitely a summer trip. Given the narrow lanes, deep cuttings and drop-offs it\u2019s not a particularly fast ride but definitely worth the effort. Wind along the Alpine Way through Dead Horse Gap, Khancoban \u2013 a handy fuel stop \u2013 Batlow and Tumut before heading south on the Snowy Mountain Highway through Kosciuszko National Park. The run down to Providence Portal has some excellent bends to enjoy on your way back to Cooma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Blowering Dam fast Take a hot bath
<\/strong>A short detour north of Kiandra, this reservoir is three times the size of Sydney Harbour and is famous as the setting for the world water-speed record, set in 1978 by Ken Warby who hurtled along in his jet-powered boat, Spirit of Australia, at a speed of 511.1km\/h. His record still stands today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/strong>Exploring the limestone caves at Yarrangobilly makes for a pleasant stop-off. The largest, South Glory, can be viewed on a self-guided tour. Afterwards, take a dip in the soothing waters of the nearby spring-fed thermal pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
