While this route around the stunning Gasp\u00e9 Peninsula can be ridden in either direction, it\u2019s worth travelling counter-clockwise in order to keep the sea by your side \u2013 especially along Chaleur Bay, designated one of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World. Look closely and you might spot the blowhole spout of a humpback whale or Atlantic white-sided dolphin. On the inland side, there\u2019s excellent wildlife viewing, too \u2013 watch for moose, red fox and 246 species of birds at Forillon National Park. Take a detour to Bonaventure Island to see the world\u2019s most accessible colony of Northern Gannets or head to Parc national de la Gasp\u00e9sie to see the only caribou herd south of the St. Lawrence River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While this 10-hour ride could be completed in a day, there are so many museums, historic sites, and villages along the way that it\u2019s worth an overnight. Take your time to enjoy the dramatic sea cliffs, boreal forests, and ocean views that make this route a rite of passage for every Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong>Surrounded by the sea, it\u2019s no surprise that La Gasp\u00e9sie is known for its fish and lobster. Perhaps less obvious are the region\u2019s specialities of venison, emu, gourmet deli meats, pickles and preserves. Of course, you\u2019ll also find Quebec\u2019s world-renowned cheeses and plenty of opportunities to seek out the perfect croissant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
