Who fancies a tour of Austria’s largest wine region and has a little room in their panniers for a souvenir or three? Conveniently close to the capital, Vienna, and all its highlights, you can take a round trip from the pleasant little village of Kleinrötz to Spannberg (riding through the surrounding forests is fantastic), Zistersdorf (an oil town, believe it or not), Hausbrunn (handy for the borders with both the Czech Republic and Slovakia), Grosskrut (great for hiking), Poysdorf (try the Vino Versum Poysdorf wine museum), Laa an der Thaya (finding the castle won’t be difficult), Unterstinkenbrunn (yes, it really is called that) and back to Kleinrötz again.

Poysdorf’s Oldtimer Museum is home to a lovingly maintained collection of historic cars, motorcycles, tractors and other mechanical treasures.
