The Venus Line

Japan | 68 km

The Venus Line is a mountain ride travelling from Chino city to Ueda city in Nagano, with many great vistas along the way. It is ideal for summer touring when the native highland plants are in full bloom, but the lakes, wetlands, and mountains make for a spectacular ride in any season. You can also enjoy gourmet food as there are many restaurants serving Nagano’s famous buckwheat noodles, gibier, and other traditional cuisine.

Kirigamine Plateau is the highest point on the Venus Line, famous for its mountain pastures and beautiful views of Lake Shirakaba. The beautiful yellow Nikkoukisuge flowers are particularly famous but there are pastoral views of alpine scenery through all four seasons. The Yashimagahara Wetlands are towards the end of the ride and are a fitting reward for completion as the rare sight of the mirrorlike water reflecting the sky among the rare plants and flowers of the vast marshland landscape is something to be savoured.

A Gorgeous Gorge
Yokoya Gorge is a spectacular ravine on the Shibu River, famous for its kaleidoscopic whirlwind of colours in autumn and glacial blue waterfalls in winter. The picturesque pools, hot springs, waterfalls, and foliage make the scene appear like an impressionist painting.
