The Ashinoko Skyline
Japan | 24 km
The Ashinoko Skyline is a winding road following the western ridge of Ashinoko Lake, offering gorgeous views of the water as well as of Mt Fuji and Mt Komogatake. If you so choose, the ride can form a loop by continuing along the eastern lake edge back to the starting point at Hakone Pass. The lake was formed from a volcanic collapse hundreds of thousands of years ago, and there are plenty of nearby attractions such as hot springs and ryokans if you’re looking for a rest stop.
The sight of beautiful Mt. Fuji spreading out ahead from Hakone Pass is stunning, and different views can be enjoyed depending on the season; one of the best is Mikuni Pass, marked by an engraved rock. The observation deck at Lake View Rest House offers another breathtaking vista, with one of the best panoramic views of Mt Komagatake and Lake Ashinoko found along this spectacular ride.
Musical Road
Watch out for sign adorned with musical notations marking the Melody Road section of the ride – a section of the road that has a number of groves cut into the surface which plays the theme song from Neon Genesis Evangelion when driven over at speeds of around 40km/h.
