Mdina to Qawra
Malta, 29km
This route takes in the best that northern Malta has to offer, running from Mdina Gate to Qawra and taking in much of the northern interior as well as the coast. Qwara Point is a breathtaking beach and resort just off the Qwara promenade, with clear turquoise waters and sensational views.
Malta is a fascinating melting pot of cultures which includes Middle Eastern and Sicilian influences. This can be seen in places like the capital city of Valletta, built by the Knights of St John, and castellated hilltop towns like Victoria and Mdina. There is a lot to see within relatively short distances, including historic sites dating to pre-antiquity and quaint, quiet villages. Don’t forget to ride on the left-hand side of the road.
Silent City
Mdina, also known as Malta’s ‘Silent City’ is a small, fortified city with a mix of Baroque and Medieval architecture criss-crossed by charming narrow streets. The ornate Vilhena Gate is the main entrance to town and dates from 1724.
Under the surface
The town of Rabat is a medieval jewel built on Roman foundations and includes the underground network of St Paul’s Catacombs.
