Meandering through the picturesque Southern Highlands of NSW, the trip to Kangaroo Valley combines the rolling green pastures of the Mittagong and Bowral areas, before descending into the temperate rainforests surrounding the quaint village of Kangaroo Valley.

The roads between Mittagong and Fitzroy Falls aren’t challenging, provided the opportunity to take in the picturesque surrounds before starting the descent into Kangaroo Valley which is more challenging and fun but and the scenery even more spectacular.

It’s somewhat of a tradition to pull up at ‘The Friendly Inn Hotel’ for a pint or a feed while in Kangaroo Valley but there’s a myriad of options to keep everyone fed and happy.

Take the fall
Fitzroy Falls – 30 kilometres from Mittagong and 17 from Kangaroo Valley – is certainly worthy of your time. Located in Morton National Park, the falls plunge 80 metres into the valley below and the award-winning visitor’s centre offers refreshments and a stack of quality info on the area.

Step back in time
The Pioneer Village Museum, located on the Sydney side of Historic Hampden Bridge, offers a glimpse into the life of the early settlers of the area. Featuring original buildings, historic displays, and war memorial – a must-see for any history buff.
