Bandai Azuma Skyline
Japan | 29 km
The Bandai Azuma Skyline is a 29 km long scenic road recognised as one of the 100 best roads in Japan and, with an average elevation of 1,350 m, it offers incredible views all the way along the ride.
Winding through the Azuma Mountains and tying together Takayu Onsen, and the Tsuchiyu Mountain Pass, this spectacular road commands panoramic views of Fukushima City, the crater of Mt Azuma-Kofuji, and the surrounding landscape with its swathes of alpine plants and rhododendron forests in spring and striking seasonal foliage in autumn. The road is closed from mid-November till spring, with the most scenic views in early April when the ‘Snow Corridor’ of unthawed snow coincides with cherry blossom season.
Mountaintop Rest Stop
Takayu Onsen is an award-winning onsen that makes for a perfect rest stop. Sitting on a high mountain plateau featuring natural hot springs and many ryokans, this traditional Japanese-style inn offers a unique atmosphere that can be found only here.
