Amherst to Truro via Advocate Harbour

Nova Scotia | 227 km

Start your ride in Amherst, on the northeast end of the Cumberland Basin. Glance at the skies as you pass the Amherst Migratory Bird Sanctuary before exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs.

Turn onto the 209 to follow the western Fundy coastline to the charming village of Advocate Harbour and Cape Chignecto Provincial Park.

The second leg of this ride takes you through the stunning Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark along the Minas Basin. You’ll pass plenty of scenic walks and lookouts, so take your time. If you only stop for one, make it the Old Wife Lookout in Five Islands Provincial Park. These bright red cliffs mixed with darker cooled lava are remnants of an extinction-level breakup of the massive continent Pangea 200 million years ago.

In Truro, explore the historic downtown or head to the Fundy Discovery Site to experience the Bay of Fundy’s tidal bore, caused by the highest tides on earth.

Choices, choices
From Truro, you can head to Cape Breton for the Cabot Trail, to Halifax to explore the provincial capital, or down through the wine country of the Annapolis Valley.
