Island Loop

Taiwan | 946 km

This circular route of the island of Taiwan starts in the capital Taipei and circles around the entire coast, taking in Taoyuan, Taichung, Kaoshiung, Taitung, Hualien, and Yilan before ending back in Taipei. The ride takes in many of Taiwan’s most scenic routes, including spectacular cliffside roads, beaches, and Taiwan’s unique and distinctive scenery.

Highway No. 61, which runs along the west coast, was recently voted Taiwan’s most scenic road. The 10 km highway section at the 111-121km mark, sitting between mountains and the sea, allows travellers to capture sunsets facing the Taiwan Strait. Another part of the same highway, between the 53-54 km mark in Taoyuan, was voted Taiwan’s second most scenic road. It is best known for the picturesque bridge that connects the renowned fishing port of Yong’an.

Suhua Highway on the east coast is one of the most scenic drives in Asia. The road follows a spectacular sweeping route, hugging the steep cliffs of the coast, high above the Pacific Ocean.

TAIPEI LIFE
While Taiwan is a small island, the capital city of Taipei is something of a tourist hot-spot and is one of the most visited cities in the entire world. There is something for everyone, from its many yearly festivals, round-the-clock nightlife, and many historic temples to see.
