Summerside to Tignish via West Point

Prince Edward Island | 133km

This short but scenic ride starts in Summerside, PEI’s second-largest city, known as the City by the Sea. Before kickstands up, take a stroll through the town to admire the historic architecture from the 19th century shipbuilding boom. Then hit the road for West Point. Take a break to admire PEI’s tallest lighthouse, surrounded by long stretches of red-sand beach and cedar dunes. Built in 1875, the West Point Lighthouse was manned until 1963 but now operates as an inn – book a room if you want to make this into a weekend adventure.

Then ride PE-14 northeast as it hugs the coast to Tignish. Pause for a very different lighthouse photo op at Howard’s Cove – the squat 5.8m structure is one of the Island’s smallest. In Skinners Pond, visit the Stompin’ Tom Centre to dive into the history of this local legend. Then take the final stretch to Tignish, a fishing and farming town of only 800 people with strong Acadian and Irish roots.

Aw, shucks
The North Cape region of PEI is known as The Canadian Oyster Coast, and for good reason. The Malpeque oysters found here are world-renowned.
