Carhenge

Alliance, NE | 276 Miles

Called “Nebraska’s Answer to Stonehenge,” the High Plains region’s Carhenge was created in 1987 by local farmer Jim Reinders as a memorial to his father. Forget standing stones—the monument is comprised of 39 American-made automobiles, all painted grey, and mimics the physical size and placement of the monoliths of Stonehenge.

In addition, three cars are buried at Carhenge with an apt headstone, reading “Here lie three bones of foreign cars. They served our purpose while Detroit slept. Now Detroit is awake and America’s great!”
