Girl Power

International Female Ride Day across Canada and beyond

With targeted gear, social events, a proliferation of riding groups, builders and buying power, women are a force within the motorcycling community. Women have been riding and advocating since the early years of the sport – for example, Lillian Hauerwas was writing for motorcycling magazines as far back as the 1910s.

International Female Ride Day (IFRD), celebrated on the first Saturday in May, is an international women’s riding event with Canadian roots. Launched in Toronto in 2007 by Ontario-based rider Vicki Gray, IFRD is a global celebration of the cultural, social and active lifestyles of women who ride and enjoy motorcycling and powersports.

“International Female Ride Day is a powerful symbol of representation,” Vicki said in a press release. “It’s a day when women riders from all walks of life and cultures come together to celebrate their shared passion and show the world that riding is for everyone.”

The 19th annual event is coming up on Saturday, May 3. Female riders across Canada are encouraged to join tens of thousands of women in the world’s largest synchronized woman’s ride. You can ride on your own, or with a group. Learn more about how to participate on the IFRD website. Throughout the year, female Harley-Davidson® riders can find camaraderie and sisterhood through Ladies of Harley (LOH), a division of the Harley Owners Group. LOH helps promote women’s participation in the world of Harley-Davidson, whether they ride solo or as a passenger. The active members of LOH are a group of women who enjoy organizing and participating in riding and social events resulting in fun and friendship. Learn more about LOH from your local HOG chapter.
