Venceram o Hendee e a Judson de um quarto de milha, mas os primeiros 50 milhas, desde o in\u00edcio, percorridas a uma m\u00e9dia de 1.000 pontos, foram marcadas como finalizadas. Um membro da equipe de resist\u00eancia de motocicletas Harley-Davidson, em 1908, mostrou ao mundo a versatilidade com uma economia recorde de 188,23 milhas por gal\u00e3o, apenas dois anos ap\u00f3s sua cria\u00e7\u00e3o. Ent\u00e3o, em 1915, a equipe de corrida Hendee Experimenters foi formada sob a lideran\u00e7a do engenheiro-chefe da Harley. A Harley venceu a primeira prova de 300 milhas realizada no famoso circuito de Dodge, em 1915. A equipe come\u00e7ou a realizar testes experimentais de pneus na praia de Daytona, estabelecendo recordes oficiais e n\u00e3o oficiais. Em 1928, Leslie \u201cRed\u201d Parkhurst superou 100 milhas por hora, tornando-se o primeiro motociclista a alcan\u00e7ar essa marca. Em 1929, Joe Petrali foi o primeiro piloto da Harley a atingir 120 mph. A Harley-Davidson passou a dominar praticamente todas as principais competi\u00e7\u00f5es americanas. Na d\u00e9cada de 1930, Joe Petrali estava fazendo ondas, e em 1938 tornou-se o primeiro piloto americano a ultrapassar 150 mph. A Harley manteve sua posi\u00e7\u00e3o de destaque nas competi\u00e7\u00f5es americanas, com grande presen\u00e7a nas 100 Milhas da AMA, nas corridas de subida em colina e no flat track. Em 1947, a Harley-Davidson apresentou um dos seus melhores pilotos de corrida, Bill Tuman. Nos anos seguintes, a Harley conquistou 16 campeonatos nacionais da AMA, consolidando sua reputa\u00e7\u00e3o nas pistas.
