H-D LEGENDS

Joana Gonzales loves being part of a dynamic community of riders in the Philippines and has shared her passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles with her family and friends

I first discovered Harley-Davidson when…
Looking back at my journey, I fondly remember purchasing Harley-Davidson dealer T-shirts for my partner while traveling abroad. His dream of riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle never happened, and after his passing in 2011, I felt a deep sense of loss. I decided to pursue his dream to honour his memory.

I firmly believe that if something is truly meant for you, it will find its way into your life, oftentimes unexpectedly. This became evident as the universe aligned in my favour when I got a job as merchandise manager at the first authorised H-D dealership in the Philippines back in 2013. Working for such an an iconic brand has been amazing and has helped me recover following the loss of my partner.

Being part of a dynamic community of riders definitely kick-started my determination to learn to ride. I enrolled in riding courses in 2015 and had the privilege of riding the demo bikes at work, but I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy as I watched the others on the course ride their own Harleys.

I share my passion with…
As a single mum with two kids, my priorities have always been clear. However, in 2017, I reached a personal milestone by owning a Harley-Davidson Street 500. Despite the demands of motherhood, I found time to embrace my passion and remind myself that it’s never too late to pursue personal joys.

I now own a Sportster S and actively share my passion for riding on social media. I recognise the importance of extending that feeling and freedom to female pillion riders as well. I created a project called “She’s Got a Ticket to Ride”, which led to the formation of Ladies of Harley Manila, who used to ride pillion and now enjoy riding their Harleys with their husbands.

What I love my Harley because…
What I love most about riding a Harley is that I inspired my fiancé to ride. He had zero knowledge or interest in riding motorcycles until he met me. Now he’s completely hooked! He eventually settled on a Low Rider ST. In 2023, he joined our H.O.G. Manila Chapter, and this year he was selected to be the assistant director. My son rides with us on our adventures too! We’ve created our own little riding family one happy mile at a time!

I’m proud of…
I’m having an incredible experience with the H.O.G. Manila Chapter, fully embracing the thrill of riding! Since I started riding with the chapter, I’ve held various roles. I was the chapter photographer at one point then the Ladies of Harley officer. During last year’s Asia Harley Days in Thailand, I was honoured to be awarded AEM Ladies of Harley Diva 2024. Most recently, I was appointed as the incumbent 2025 chapter manager.

My favourite rides are…
I enjoy doing the Loop rides in Batangas, Mindoro, Marinduque, Zambales. Hopefully, the next one I’ll do is Luzon – and the Philippine Loop would be even better!

My mantra is…
Follow your dreams no matter how unconventional they may seem. I’m so grateful I did. Riding has changed my life, and I’ve passed on the love of motorcycles to my partner, son, daughter and grandson. My journey has been filled with unforgettable memories. See you on the open road!
